Just tonight I tried out Z-Link at 19,200 baud. It worked fine for
transferring a test .shk file to the PC and back via NULL modem. On the GS,
Z-Link Terminal mode was On and set to "H-19".
The PC was running HyperTerm under Win95. Baud was 19,200, Terminal was set
to TTY, and the connection was set to the usual 8-N-1, Hardware. The modem cable
used was a 'hi-speed cable' which allows hardware handshaking.
Our GS runs with a ZipGSx accelerator-- probably, Z-Link could have run
faster than 19,200. 19,200 may be near the max for an unaccelerated GS-- don't
know.
Here are a few snips of info which may help ...
o- Assuming you use the normal GS Modem port, Slot 2 must be set to Modem in the
Control Panel (i.e. in the "Slots" settings).
o- In the Control Panel for "Modem", I had all default (checked) settings except
baud was set to 19,200 and DCD was set to No. (This may not matter for Z-Link
since it controls the Modem Port.)
o- In Z-Link, OpenApple-W lets you set baud rate. (This info is in the Z-Link
docs but the option does not show up in the main options menu-- the one you get
to via OpenApple-?.) Z-Link normally starts with baud rate set to 1200; but,
you can Save a good setup (including baud rate) and Load it next time you start
Z-Link.
o- A good test for whether the computers are ready to talk is being in term mode
on Z-Link and being able to type stuff which appears in the HyperTerm window.
o- When doing an X-modem transfer, start the Send side first, then the Receive
side.
