: let you read/write/format ProDOS disks, without the "ProDOS File System"

To be exact, it was part of the LC IIe card software and has been superseded.
The problem with reading anything other than a floppy that's ProDOS format
is that PC Exchange won't give you a device driver. The disk has to have one
in its APPLE_DRIVER partition, and the driver has to know that ProDOS volumes
are valid disk volumes. If all of this is the case then the ProDOS volume
will appear.
