Digital Research was the company that wrote and sold CP/M.  DR-DOS was
their foray into the PC market (after CP/M-86 never got anywhere).  I
know that Caldera ended up with ownership of DR-DOS, so I assume CP/M
came along for the ride.

A 90-day trail of CP/M on what platform, I wonder?  There are dozens if
not hundreds of platforms that can run CP/M, each of which requires
their own build of the operating system (BIOS in particular), possibly
on a unique disk format.

The standard distribution format for CP/M at least up to 2.2 was a
single density 8 inch disk, but I think the hardware vendor had to
provide the tools for creating a system disk with their BIOS.  Digital
Research just provided the BDOS, command processor and tools.
