There are several dozen CD-ROMs you can use with the IIGS.
Check out http://www.sequential.com/ Sequential Systems for
DiskQuest, a set of a couple of dozen information CD-ROMs for
the IIGS.  Also see DiscQuest Encyclopedia, a version of
Compton's Encyclopedia for the IIGS.  http://www.crl.com/~joko
also has a couple of CD-ROMs, one full of HyperStudio stacks
and one full of HyperCard stacks.  There are also two archive
CD-ROMs of shareware, PD, and freeware, one called the
Golden Orchard CD-ROM and one called the TABBs CD-ROM.

For just these alone would justify finding an old 1x or 2x
CD-ROM drive for the IIGS (get one of these ROMs and you
will not have to download anything for the IIGS)!  Saves you
days of download time.

Add to this the ability to play audio CDs and the CD-ROM
drives use for archival purposes (back up all your Apple IIGS
stuff to hard drive, take it over to a Mac or Win PC and burn
it to CD-R, take the CD-R back to the IIGS and back up your
system any time through the IIGS' CD-ROM drive) and you
can see why CD-ROM drives are useful on the IIGS.

I forgot to mention the hundreds of Mac/PC HFS and
ISO9660 CD-ROMs filled with GIFs, Postscript files,
TrueType fonts, and Postscript fonts that the IIGS can use.

The IIGS is an amazing unit!
