Re: Hard Drive Question
You can use the Western Digital Drive if :
First requirement
It is an MFM style hard drive! Check first if your Western Digital is
connected with TWO cables one smaller one bigger to the controller. If this
is the case the first requirement is met. DONT EVEN TAKE IT OUT IF IT HAS
ONLY ONE 40 PIN CABLE !
Second requirement
The number of BOTH heads AND cylinders must be equal or higher than the
number of heads and cylinders of the original drive !
For example if you put in a 40MB MFM drive with both numbers of heads and
cylinders higher than the original drive, the Xebec SASI to MFM
adapter in the Sider will see and handle it exactly as the original drive.
Which means in capacity you will have a downformatted 40 to 20 MB drive. But
it will work.
Hope this helps
