Well, the TWGS has no such indiosyncracy. ;-)
Seriously, though, I've read from user reports that whether you need
to replace the 74hc00 or not depends on your particular ZipGS. Some
users say that if they replace it, they can't get over 12.5Mhz. Others
say the opposite, that they need to replace it or they can't get over
12.5Mhz. It just depends on the particular card and/or system.

Now I can tell you that this is absolutely not true, no matter what the
older (Nathan) FAQs said. You must remember that Nathan himself
only had a 9Mhz accelerator. I've upgraded my TWGS to 12.5Mhz
and the system is absolutely more "zippy" than at 10Mhz. The same
should be true of the ZipGS. So go ahead and try for 12.5Mhz first.
While experimenting some week or two ago, I downed the card's
speed to 10Mhz. Yikes, it was slow, or at least to me. If I could get
spoiled at 12.5Mhz compared to 10Mhz, the jump DOES mean a lot!
