CrystalSynth for IIGS

At the newstand, I saw an issue of Popular Electronics with an
external wavetable synth project.  At the heart of the device is
a CrystalSynth wavetable chip, complete with 128 instrument
samples and GS/GM compliance.

This device was designed to interface via MIDI, but I was thinking,
how hard would it be for a competent hacker familiar with the
Apple Bus to design a slot card of a similar design?  This would
be a great way to expand the sound capabilities of the IIGS.
