A stock //e has a speed of 1 MHz, while a //GS has 2 MHz and a //c+ has a
whopping 4MHz. I've seen posts of people who've been able to speed up their
Apple //'s to 12 MHz, but they're mostly //GS's. Personally, though, I feel
the "need for speed" unnecessary in an 8 bit computer. Most of the time the
extra speed is for fancy graphics, anyway.
