Taking David Wilson's advice, I measured voltages on the no-slot-clock and
found 1.5 volts between the two points on the ASCII art of the chip, shown
below:

The "bad" NSC even shows 1.3 volts beteen the two points, so I will try
that unit on a diofferent IIe before getting involved in soldering tiny
wires.
What 1.5 volt battery is recommended??? Lithium is always 3 volts, right?
How about an AG-13 calculator battery??? Should it be a ni-cad
rechargeable battery????
