Ummm, sooo...where could I get a copy of Apple II Desktop to try out, if
it's not something that I am not allowed to get a copy of or something.

Supertimer, I know you're one of the big names on here (or at least it
seems that way to me) so don't think me presumptuous...but I'd be _very_
wary of 'expanding' the ProDOS FS in any way by using GEOS. I mean,
perhaps the root directory bit won't hurt you, I don't know, I haven't
tried it...but GEOS flagrantly ignores a lot of ProDOS conventions which
causes problems later.
You can use spaces (in fact, almost every other GEOS file does)...but
everything but GEOS gripes at you, and I have yet to find something which
will even let me rename a file with a space in it, much less manipulate it
in any way, outside of GEOS. And who knows what other things it could do
if you messed with it too much. I try to keep to any 'rules' I can think
of.
Example of bad GEOS behavior...
was working with a 5Mb HD...was making some duplicates of files to work
with to test some stuff out. Happened to duplicate some GEOS directories
to see if I could mess with the whole stamping thing. didn't think much of
it until I crashed and had to restart. GEOS would no longer boot off of
that disk. When I booted with GEOS off of 5.25, there were too many drives
ahead of it to even get to the HD. Was too tired to start swtiching cards
around or pull drives out. Decided to empty out the disk and start with a
fresh GEOS install. Except...nothing would let me delete the files. Bad
path errors, file not found errors, everything...because of spaces and
such...finally I managed to boot GEOS and delete it from within GEOS,
although that was a slow and irritating experience by that point...ah
well, perhaps I don't really know what I'm talking about...
Oh yeah, and where do I stick ProDOS so that it sees it and will boot P8
apps from GEOS? I tried root level, but...
