It sounds like, maybe, your browser is set up to recognize and deal
with various kinds of download files. A .bxy file is a ShrinkIt file
with a Binary II header.

GS-ShrinkIt can handle most .bxy files. Usually, it is more
convenient to download .shk, .bxy, .zip, etc. files as binary files with
no processing and do unShrinking, unZipping, ... later on.

If the above does not seem to fit your setup, the problem may be
that downloaded files are corrupted. This can happen when an ftp site is
accessed via an http:// reference. The files seem to download okay but
they contain extra characters which ruin them.

To download files from ftp sites (like Asimov-GS, Ground, and
Apple-Caltech) using a net browser, access the site via an ftp://
reference.
Usually, when you just click on a file listed on an ftp site you
will end up downloading to the screen instead of to a folder on hard
disk. To select a file for downloading (under Netscape), right-click on
the name and choose a destination folder. Under some other browser, you
may need to use a Shift-click, etc. to set a destination folder and get
a download to disk.
