: 1.) I have a Disk ][ analog card but on my Apple IIe motherboard there is no

: it goes in Slot 6, but I need to get another card to use my 2
: isk ][ drives?
You're confusing me here. The Disk ][ Analog Card is a board mounted
inside a Disk ][. What you need is the Disk ][ controller card, and the
20-pin ribbon cable that goes from the one to the other. Normally, the
Disk ][ has the analog card and ribbon cable pre-installed. Is this the
problem? Or do you actually have a disk controller and no way to plug the
drive in (perhaps a controller with a 19-pin connector and a Disk ][; or a
controller with the two 20-pin drive connectors and a 5.25" drive)?
If you have Disk ]['s, both drives plug directly into the controller card;
the connectors are marked. Be careful to connect the connectors properly;
if you are off by one pin, you WILL blow a chip in the drive.
If you have the plastic-case drives, then Drive 1 plugs into the 19-pin
connector on the controller card, and the second drive plugs into the
first drive.
: 2.) When I startup my Apple IIe it says APPLE ][ instead of APPLE //e, does
: that mean that my Apple IIe is a plain Apple II? My motherboard says Apple
: IIe on it
Actually it doesn't say "APPLE ][", it says "Apple ][". You have an
earlier ][e, with the 6502, no MouseText, and the older version of the
Applesoft ROM. You're about 90% compatible with all //e-compatible
software. Of course, if you had the later, "enhanced" //e with the 65C02,
the MouseText video ROM, and the newer Applesoft ROM, you'd still only be
about 90% compatible, as the MouseText sometimes causes problems with old
programs. That's the one that says, "Apple //e"
If it said "APPLE ][" (all caps) on boot, then you would actually have a
][ or ][+...very doubtful in a ][e case.
: 3.) Doesnt OpenApple+Control+Reset reboot the computer? Because on my A2 it
: goes into some kind of diagnostics even when I try ClosedApple+Control+Reset
OpenApple-Control-Reset should restart the computer.
SolidApple-Control-Reset should run the self-test.
BothApples-Control-Reset should run the self-test while playing an
annoying high-pitched sound.
If you press OA-Ctrl-Reset and you get a self-test with a high-pitched
squeal, it means your solid-apple key is stuck. But before you blame the
keyboard, look around...do you have a joystick or a set of paddles connected?
Clean the pile of books, papers, and junk off the joystick and see if that
helps...the apple keys are wired to the joystick fire buttons.
Good luck!
