Yes, nominally. The actual low-load voltage for a couple new AA
cells is going to be around 3.2V. A problem with using two AA cells is
that you are likely to get a fairly short useful life. A typical 3.6V
1.2AH Lithium battery is good for at least 5 years. The Nite Owl Slip-On
battery in our IIgs is on its 7th or 8th year.
Lithium batteries are a lot cheaper than they used to be. All
Electronics (800-826-5432; http://www.allcorp.com ) generally offers
3.6V 2.5AH Lithium batteries with wire leads for less than $4.00.
