I THINK this must be the APPLE 1 meg memory card. Should work on ROM 3
but I never owned one so I can't be sure.

This sounds like a chip for the AE GS RAM Plus (6 meg max), one of which I
used to own. The ROM 01 GS and the ROM 03 GS required different chips due
to the different memory configurations on the mother boards.
You should get GS/OS system 6.0.1, a set of six 800K disks. It's
available free off the net, but someone can probably get it to you on
disks, just keep asking around.
