The connector is a high speed bus connector, similar to the
"Processor Direct Slot (PDS)" on older Macs.  The bus
runs at the speed of the TWGS, thus eliminating the need
to use the slower AppleBus (from the slots).

According to AE advertisements, it was intended for future
products from AE that would plug into it.

A video card, a memory card, a networking card, who
knows.
