Good News
As a further to my post of the Apple IIs in the school.
Now I know this is about Macs but it is a good Apple story. so bear with me.
I sent a MAC Classic and an Immagewriter II to Atapie in May.
Now for those of you who may not remember, this is the place in Papua/New
Guinea that got hit by the Tsunami.
A week after the Tsunami Hit with such devastating effect killing many and
injuring many more, I faxed to the Disabled Centre (leper colony) asking if
some more computers sould be of use to them in their time of need.
Do not ask Franciscian Monk what they want because they will tell you. You
tell them what you can give.
They faxed back and said four more machines and 4 printers would be of great
assistance to them. I was thinking of two more classics and a printer. Also a
couple of IIGS's that I have. Oh well we all learn.
Anyway the upshot of it is that 4 Classics and four printers were sent to
them to help in the administration section of the Hospital.
I have had people say what use would computers be to them. I reply that in a
hospital that uses only some Typewritters and hand written records it helps
the overworked office workers to cope with the extra demand placed on them by
the disaster. This was not a unsolicited item sent to them but a requested by
them item. I was lucky in that the Catholic Church when approached offered to
pay the freight which was 50% of the normal rate by New Guinea Air. This was
still just under $400.
This centre is run by a couple of over 80 monks and by all accounts are a
real pair of live wires.
