Re: Is there a MIDI player for Apple 2 GS ?

Excellent advise, and no sarcasm intended.

Well admittely, _both_ of us have been rather rude to each
other as a results of our opinions clashing--and believe it
or not, I feel rather badly about that--but I honestly can't
remember any outright name calling and insults. You insinuated
that I probably think your delusional, and okay, I did say that
was an accurate description if you believed analog casettes
tapes and 8-bit waveforms are superior to MPEG1, Layer 3 audio.
As for making technical observation about your Apple IIgs
and your IBM 6x86, if you take that as a personal attack, then
you really do take your computing too seriously.
>Belittling other people's opinions and passing off your own
>as facts?
I told you, I *respect* your opinion where it is actually
an opinion. You said you feel MP3 format lacks the bass and
frequency response of analog casettes and 8-bit waveforms. I
don't agree with that opinion at all, but your certainly
entitled to share it and I respect that (of course it really
has no place in this newsgroup).
It is when you make blantently false claims, that is where
I lose my respect. It is a technical fact that MPEG1, Layer 3
is far superior to an 8-bit waveform for example. It is a fact
that HFS is slow writing on the IIgs. Saying otherwise is no
more an opinion than saying the stock IIgs supports 640x480.
It is a matter of fact versus opinion.
We have a difference of opinion on the definition of what
a "MIDI player" is. That is fine. What I don't understand is
why you take it so personally when I pointed out limitations
of playing MIDI on the IIgs. Maybe if YOU were the person who
designed the hardware and software that controlled it, but...
>Yes, I don't agree with you all the time, but that's no reason
>to act like everything I think and use is bad. My opinions
>about music are bad.
No, they're just different from mine.
>The Windows PC I use is bad.
I just told you a fact, that the FPU your Pentium chip uses
is weak. I am truely sorry if this offends you.
>The IIGS (which I use) is bad.
Nope, it is just different from mine. I choose the ZipGS,
RamFAST SCSI and a 4 MB RAM board as the best combination in
my mind, while you prefer and choose the Apple HS SCSI, Trans-
Warp GS and an 8 MB card.
A computer does *not* equal or reflect your personality,
and I don't judge you as a person based on what purchasing
decisions you made. I think it is pretty foolish to buy a
computer to make a statement about yourself (or any other
material object for that matter). Sheesh, I get the feeling
a lot of people seem to think they and their computer are one.
>Meanwhile YOUR Windows PC is the best.
My PC kind of sucks at present. I have a 166 MHz (non-MMX)
classic pentium chip on a motherboard which cannot support any
higher voltages, so 200 MHz is the most I can do (which is not
much improvement over what I have now). The bus speed can go
no higher than 66 MHz. This doesn't run software emulators at
anywhere near full-speed and I'm finding a lot of the new 3Dfx
Voodoo games are starting to run sluggish under this setup.
It is almost obsolite as is. I'd really rather have a
Celeron running at 450 MHz (with 100 MHz bus), thank you. :)
If you want to critize anything on my system (my monitor,
modem, CD drive, sound cards) I may agree or disagree with
your critisms, but I won't take it personally.
>YOUR taste in music is based on fact.
Where did you get that idea?
>YOU are man enough to criticize the IIGS and non-Intel PCs.
What is wrong with criticizing a machine? I have never
critized _you_ for your choices, have I? (that would be a
totally different story).
>This is getting really, really tiresome and rediculous.
Yeah, it is. Incidentally, I have more reason to be
personally offended than you. You were the one who was
making personal attacks on *me* out of the blue, with
editorial comments splashed throughout your posts.
Do you recall when Brutal Deluxe announced that their
Cogito game was now supporting the Second Sight? What did
you do? You posted that was fantastic news, while inserting
several nasty comments (personal attacks actually) about me
because of my _past_ opinions of the Second Sight card. I
had never commented about their game--or the Second Sight in
months--so why the need to personally attack me? Doing that
is "belittling other people's opinions" (Nathan used to do
this all the time, if he disagreed with someone's opinion,
he'd include nasty comments in between his informational
posts putting down that person). I thought you were against
that kind of behavior.
Look at how this whole thing started. Someone asked if
there was a MIDI player for the IIgs. I said there wasn't
one in terms of what he was probably thinking, but LISTED
options and everything I could think of on the topic that
might help him out. You'd think I said, "Hey, the IIgs is
trash and can't do anything, go get a PC instead". Maybe
I'm delusional, but I think my reply was unbiased and just
concentrated on being informational and helping the person
out. What do you want from me, to just gloss over everything
and and ALWAYS glorify the IIgs, along with a canned 300
line speech below it, saying how great the machine is?
I don't know about you, but I'd like to get back to
discussing Apple II stuff and avoid fighting with you.
(or even holding gudges over this if possible).
