Apple IIgs and Super Serial card

  I have been trying all night to get my Apple IIgs (stripped, nothing but
the box + monitor/kbd/dd) to work as a dumb terminal on my Linux box. The
setup works fine with the Apple IIe I have, but when I throw the Super Serial
card in the IIgs, it goes crazy, spitting out garbage everywhere. How can I
either disable the on board serial ports, or get the on board serial ports to
work with a PC's? Will a simple modem cable for a Mac work? I am lost here. I
just bought the IIgs a couple of months ago and just got around to using it.
