| The problem I see with Delphi: The Apple II community is a small
|and isolated group, and it is made even further isolated when people
|start running off to "hide" on Delphi.
|
| comp.sys.apple2 is a usenet group, and that makes it accessible
|to virtually anyone, with little or no effort, worldwide. Now while
|Delphi can also be accessed worldwide, you have to *know* it exists,
|register an account, log-in and forced to nagivate its menu systems
|and non-standard message reader (don't get me started on hassles of
|posting). How much more likely is it that someone new finds c.s.a2
|over Delphi? Also consider this newsgroup is archived on Dejanews,
|so if someone searches it for keywords like "Apple II", or "IIgs",
|"GS/OS", "ProDOS", etc, that get them linked to other remaining
|Apple II users in a hurry. Delphi is only known by word of mouth.
|
| I'm not defending comp.sys.apple2 really (the noise levels here
|have reached a critical stage) but rather the means it uses to make
|itself easier to _access_ and _find_. Sometimes I wish we could put
|all the troublemakers on Delphi and keep comp.sys.apple2 opened to
|those willing to discuss the Apple II, and civilly. :)
|
| I find it kind of disheartening that just because I happen to
|be a regular of comp.sys.apple2 and not Delphi, I've been missing
|out on a lot of news events in the II world. Why must people keep
|important announcements a secret on Delphi? Okay, I know about
|the Wolf3D incident, but people like me end up suffering because
|of one or two individuals. Frankly I think it's playing right into
|their hands, they for some reason wanted to split and fragement
|the community and they've succeeded. Who's the real winner here?
|In the end people lurking out there think development in the II
|world has faded away, lose interest and move onto other platforms
|and the community shrinks further.
Very good point you have there!
Anyways, I am new here to this message group.
At first when I started reading csa2 I found it very
informative and worth reading.
Now I,m starting to think well what am I doing here.
These are the people that I have to deal with to get information
or possibly purchase equipment from. You are all acting like
a bunch of elementary school kids.
You know it's kind of boring to download the nesgroup
for off-line viewing and getting about 30 messages with:
Subject: Re: What's up on the A2 forum of Delphi access???
Enough is enough, go do that somewhere else.
Another thing is, think of it psychologically, if you keep
answering with snarly remarks to a person that I believe the
word is flaming you, or vice-versa all that you are doing is
feeding each other's attention games. Go to your wife or to
your girlfriend, or hell even to your dog if you need attention.
Seriously guys, resolve your disputes like civilized human
beings, and if you come to no resolve, well keep it off of csa2
so that the rest of us who use the newsgroup can do so for it's
intended purpose. The whole issue is stale.
And for those individuals who seek to destroy a community,
whether it be the programmer's or the computer loyalist's. STOP
Pirated software is illegal. (If you don't have permission, don't do it)
Because if you do, well you will have to pay your consequences.
Losing ISP accounts, access to sites on the internet, etc...
If you rob a bank and get caught, well guess what, you are going
to jail !!!
And for those who have had the mishap of someone else pirating
software on your computer, well chose your friends more wisely.
(Also: You may judge an individual by his friends, or takes one
to know one)
So, I beg of you let's not lose focus of what this newsgroup is all
about, and let's stop this silly childish nonsense that has been
going on for the last few days. Let's look at the title of the
newsgroup Computer.Systems.Apple2, not
Computer.Systems.Apple2.Users.Quarels.Debate
