I was using the latest 0.141 from Sourceforge.
The "crash" is more of a beep and hang (no gs ui) but gsport reports that
the "internal state is suspect, restart" during a C compilation of CLOCK.CC
from the ORCA demos. GSport is responding to speed changes and it's
updating it's status at the bottom of the screen and the log in the other
window. VirtualApple (FTA's plugin) stops the same way with a beep. Not a
crash to the GS monitor. Reset does restart the emulated GS but I don't
think clears the "internal state" message.
MESS's error message lists all three image files. I'm not at home right now
to get the names.
I have previously compiled on my real GS and under xgs/32 using this disk
image from the Byteworks Opus CD.
