Re: ae's sonic blaster: question

 Darkstar chanted almost zenlike:

    | at least i can't hear my mouse whirring as background noise on my
    | speakers any more. i've got the card installed in a slot, but
    | the slot isn't mapped to the card. all it's doing, near as i

I have one o' those beasts too, but I don't do MIDI stuff so I can only
comment about the parts I do know. :)

Yes, getting the wires hooked right does cut some of the noise -- if I
don't have things quite set right, I can hear the 5.25"'s pulse, or
there is a bit of feedback, or there's a whirr when the HD is accessed.

    | is this: were there any drivers for the card, to replace
    | apple.midi, or for any other capacity? and will i need to map
    | the slot to the card to enable those (theoretical) features?

There were no extra drivers for the card to my knowledge, not on the
disks provided with it anyway. Never heard anyone having a problem
with Apple's MIDI driver or toolset with the card. As for the slot,
yes, you do. The passive (system sounds routed to it) is as you
described, but when you get down to using the card for recording it
will throw a "Sonic Blaster required" message at you if you don't have
it turned on first. I use the SonicSys16 sound editor program, among
others, for making resource sounds so that end of its use I know. :)

I have my card in slot 1, so I use my printer and hear sounds fine, but
when I want to edit I have to hit the Control Panel and reboot, side
effect being I can't print but I seldom print when editing sounds. :)
