If it were me...the first thing I'd try is a shift-boot to see if that makes
any difference, and then after that, I'd run ProSel-16 to see what it
reports.
If it turns out that it is simply a case of your boot blocks being
corrupted, look around for Don Elton's MakeBoot. It's a utility
that works with ECP (can't remember if that's ECP8 or ECP16) and it'll
recreate the boot blocks.
Years and years ago, I had to use it after one of those stupid virii wiped
out the boot blocks on a 3.5", and it worked fine. It's freeware, so you
should be able to find it online.
Then again, boot blocks don't routinely get zapped, so it's possible that you
could have a real problem with the hard drive.
