    I highly disagree, the metal shielding is there for a reason.
If you remove it, you risk your IIgs causing RF interference with
other electrical devices in the surrounding area (this includes
neighbours' devices) and interference getting into your IIgs and
affecting sensitive cards possibly. It should be noted that the
internal powersupply makes up part of the sheilding, so for that 
reason it'd be a good idea to leave it in even if you add an 
external PC/XT powersupply.

    If your worried about the metal shielding touching cards and
causing a short, I'd suggest adding some make-shift insulation.
Eletrical tape stucked to inside of the lid would help, or you
could wedge in a thin plastic card or similar (actually Applied
Engineering used to include a plastic sheet with their RamKeeper 
card, so it wouldn't cause a short with the metal sheilding inside 
the GS case).
