Oh, HELL -- SyQuest Declares Chapter 11!



I don't know if this information will be of any use to the group (it
certainly won't be welcome news) but I have received word that the
venerable SyQuest corporation, makers of the much-lauded SparQ and SyJet
disk systems, has gone bankrupt. So far the details of this unfortunate
turn of events are sketchy, but it appears that this very worthy
competitor to the Iomega corporation won't survive. Damn, and I was
thinking of buying one of those SparQ drives for my newly built PC. :-(

Of course, based on the Apple II community as a precedent, it is
possible that the SyQuest drive standards will live on through the
loyalty of a large underground following of SparQ/SyJet users. Then
again, maybe they will go the way of Beta videotapes....
