Focus drive: to spin down or not to spin down?

Harry Protagonist, asking:

My Focus hard drive came from Alltech set not to spin down after long periods
of inactivity.  Is this bad or good?  I've had it for a few years, and have had
no problems with it, but is this situation bad for the long-term health of the
card?

Also, are there DIP-switches on the card I could set so it would spin down, and
what are the settings and their meanings?
