I recall seeing a 'see-thru' IIe in a computer store back in the
mid-80s. I don't recall if it was smoked plexiglass. It was a
promotional display unit so that folks could see the innards of
the IIe while it was running. Doesn't sound exactly like what
you are describing though. Haven't had a chance to visit the
above URL either.
