It needs its equivalent of DOS to boot up to.

Go to http://www.allelec.com/ and for $59, they will sell your
a hard drive plus controller (a hard card) with the operating
system installed and some freeware and software.

Then all you need to do is plug in the card and turn on the
computer to play.

The DOS (called ProDOS) is pretty similar to MS-DOS.

Equivalent commands are:

cd = prefix
erase = delete
rename = rename
instead of just typing the name of a program to run it,
add a hypen before the program name
catalog = dir

There are some others, but these should get you started.
