How Commodore users got a new accelerator...we could do it

I emailed Doug Cotton, of CMD (makers of the new Commodore accelerators)

I asked him is his company would be interested in the production of an
Apple II accelerator.  He said MAYBE  (well, kinda) :

At this time, we don't forsee getting directly involved with such a
design.
The volume of sales you mention just isn't adequate to support the
design
costs that we would incur.

To fund our Commodore 64 and 128 accelerators we accepted approximately
200
pre-orders for each with a $50.00 deposit per unit. We also had good
indications that a much larger number of units would sell once the
products
were complete. We have sold over 1000 of the 64 version, and are quickly

closing on 500 units sold for the 128. These products continue to sell
relatively well for us, with approximately 20 to 30 units sold per month

combined. Unless we could be confident of selling at least 500 units in
the
first year of production, we couldn't commit our resources to a similar
product for Apple computers.

However, since we have recently aquired a large number of A2 machines to

refurbish and resell, we'll make efforts to guage the interest in an
accelerator, and discuss the possibility further if we see a more
substantial market for the product.

To get a more positive response from CMD, a list of people who would buy
a new accelerator needs to be made.  I have a list of about 10 people
who want an accelerator.  I am going to set up a Webpage soon that you
can enter your Name/address if you would like a new accelerator (I'll
try to get it into the Apple 2 web-ring)
