IBM disk images of Apple II software disks

Greetings!

I just have one silly question that's probably in some FAQ somewhere,
but what the heck, I'll give it a shot... 

I have a few Apple II disks lying around the house somewhere, but the
computer's pretty much gone.  Do I need to use special software on an
IBM machine to make disk images of these disks?  Or do I need to find
an Apple II computer, and do some strange sort of disk conversion on
it?  I guess I mostly want to play some of my old video games after
discovering a cool emulator on the web, so it's not life-or-death...
but I'd really like to know.  

Anyone care to field this one?
