Re: Zip Drive on a IIe
OK, I also bought a Zip Drive for my Apple, but haven't got/taken the time to
get it to work yet. When I ordered the card, the operator did make a point of
asking me if it was going to be used on a IIe or IIgs and that I had to decide
before ordering. Nobody else cares about that when I tell them of my problems,
but it's stuck in my mind.
I picked my //gs, figuring that it's programs took more memory, and that if I
liked it, I could get another card for the //e. I set it up. Nothing worked.
I went back to the club meeting, where they had told me how great this was and
demonstrated it on the //gs, telling me that it was the "future."
Now they told me that they had read some articles and that it had to have
another SCSI device tailing after it. Neither the Zip Drive nor the Apple //
provides power to the terminator, so it wouldn't work. So I bought a CD Rom
drive for the Apple, but haven't found the time to go back and try hooking it
up more than once.
Three months ago an A2 guru came and confirmed the problem with the lack of
power to the Zip terminator. He drew up a quick soldering job that can be done
to the SCSI card to provide power to the terminator. One of the club
president's accepted the diagram and told me later that there were two other
ways even better and that he would bring them to the next meeting. But he
forgot. Then he missed the meeting. We try again in about two weeks.
So is it possible? Yes. And when I find out how, I'll let you know.
