There are already several Linux based GS emulators available. In fact, I think
a working version of XGS was released for Linux some time ago.
My reasons for making this version of XGS x86/Win32 specific are quite simple:
I hate "portable" code, especially when it fails to utilize the true strength
of a particular platform. Having a code base that will cross compile is no
great thing if the end result is a slow, inefficient, crippled piece of
software.
XGS in whatever incarnation was slow and inefficient. I removed some of the
Win32 hangups that the core was causing, and re-engineered some of the core to
make it a little easier to use. Code portability was not an issue for me.
