Yeah, that looks bad.  I would guess that there is some font
corruption, perhaps the font file on the disk itself.  The other
graphics on the screen appear to be drawn correctly, so I would rule
out memory problems.  Try making another disk copy from the images
(might want get the images from a different source) to see if it
doesn't clear up.  IIRC I got my images from asimov that looked good,
