Developers do not equal Nathan Mates. Do not confuse them.
Most developers are decent.
The remaining developers are in the A2 market because of love of the
machine and because the A2 market can still support a few (not
many but a few such as Shareware Solutions II and Texas II)
developers.
Taken that the A2 market is composed of developers who support
the A2 for love of the machine, what happens when a pirate leaks
a beta of a commercial program on a pirate site? The developer
gets disgusted and cans the program. It is not surprising, then,
that SoundSmith Pro never saw the light of day due to piracy or
that the prompt user outrage at the discovery of piracy of GeoFax
Commodore 64 prevented the programmer, who was also in the
process of developing a Geos upgrade for the C64, from giving up
and leaving the Commodore scene.
The A2 market is more like the C64 market than the PC market.
Piracy kills software in these small markets because it drives
the developers away. It is a slap in the face. And if you don't
think new software can be produced for an old computer, the
C64 just got a NEW upgrade to GEOS because piracy of the
programmer's GeoFax was stopped.
