Yeah, I've heard such stories too, but they are not true. Believe me, I
know.
In all probability, they were caused by people who assumed that the top
side of the disk was used, and then heard that there were disks of which
the bottom sides were used; so they concluded that there were different
systems.
Or, it was a vicious joke, introduced by an evil individual with the
sole purpose of creating confusion.
In reality, all disks had only the bottom side used. And tested.
