Another thing that would help solve my problem is:

Access to the Menu Bar via the Keyboard.

In Multiscribe 8-Bit, you could press ESCAPE, and the FILE menu would "open"
from the Menu bar.   You could then Press ESCAPE to exit the Menu Bar, or
use the arrow keys to navigate the Menu Bar menus.

Can you do this with a GS with the Finder or another desktop program
running?
