It isn't AppleWorks 3.0, then - mine has a blue background for CLARIS,
with grey stripes to the left and down, and white in the lower right
quadrant. "AppleWorks" is in black on the grey background, and
"Reference" is under the dividing line (white background).

Nope. AppleWorks 1.x predates Claris. All documentation and disks are
labelled "Apple".
Claris took over while AppleWorks 2.0 was current. I bought an
Apple-branded AppleWorks 2.0, but I've also seen Claris-branded ones, I
think. 2.1 and 3.0 were Claris. 4.0 was Quality Computers, and I don't
think a full manual was released for 5.0 or 5.1 (just a supplement).
Given the evidence, it is probably an AppleWorks 2.1 manual, but might
be 2.0.
