The copyright to the name Appleworks belongs to Apple
Scantron Quality Computers has the rights to use the name to sell the
Apple II version of the software.
We still manufacture and sell Appleworks.
We don't have time to worry about little things like this right now.
What Asimov is doing is illegal, but it's not costing us anything because
the vast majority of Apple II owners have been honest.
The rest wouldn't spend the money to get a legal copy of Appleworks
because they bought the computer for 5 bucks at a yard sale.
So if you download Appleworks from Asimov, I'm sure the lawyers will be
too busy worrying about other things than to crash down the doors of
people who either have no scruples, or don't know any better. But just
don't call me when you have a question. The rest of the Apple II
community could do the same.
Personally I've sold countless copies to people that got a copy of
Appleworks by other than legal means by using the analogy, you wouldn't
bring a stolen Ford in for warranty service would you?
