    Wolfenstein 3D is a major achievement for the Apple IIgs,
and it does have better sound effects than previous ports of
the game, but the frame-rate (and number of colors used) are
much less than the PC and Mac versions.

    Heh, I doubt many current game players are interested in 
Wolf 3D and DOOM today though, "Unreal" is the latest in the
next generation 3-D style games (Carmageddon II looks like 
another interesting one). :)

    I'm not sure if there was a time the IIGS was truely state-of-
the-art in every possible sense. Its color depth and resolution was
behind the Amiga, and the Atari ST had a higher vertical resolution.
The 65C816 was certainly not the fastest or most powerful processor
at the time either, and even the Commodore 64 offered sprites for
moving graphics around. A lot of these limitation I blame on Apple
for not providing though. :/
