Randy, I've been involved in a debate in the rec.photo.equipment.35mm
newsgroup and all of the sudden, I've come to realize your viewpoint
and why it so often is at odds with so many A2 users.

In that newsgroup, there is a never ending debate between supporters
of the Advanced Photo System (APS) and those that think it is sucks
and will stick with 35mm to the end.  Well, in this case, I happen to
be one of those who thinks APS is great.  It has many new features
unheard of in 35mm systems...drop in loading, mid-roll change,
magnetic encoding in the film, etc.  So finally, I asked the APS haters
"what would make you happy and why do you hate APS."

It seems the APS haters fear that APS film, which can't be used in
35mm cameras, will make their old equipment obsolete.  What they
want is a system that is backward compatible to 35mm...where you
can put the film into a 35mm camera and it'll work, but yet the film
still have features such as a magnetic layer so that it can provide
advanced features in newer cameras.

Fascinating, isn't it?  I just wanted to share this because I see
many parallels to the never ending A2 vs. Mac debates here and
the irony is, in the other newsgroup, I'm on the other side.  ;-)
I use both types of equipment, so I see nothing wrong with APS,
but for those who have a huge investment in 35mm, APS is
really hated.  However, I do understand the other side because
of the A2 experience...I suggest you make the attempt to see
why A2 users who did not follow the party line and made the
switch to Macintosh and chose a Wintel path feel the way they
do...
