I'm not sure what GBBS means. Maybe it's a melt of the two words BBS and
GS, making it a BBS on a GS, a GbbS.

METAL means Mega Extensive Telecommunications Application(s) Language.
I'm not sure about the original author (Greg Boe...?) but Joshua
Thompson (from XGS!) wrote several versions/ updates of it. He also
started a GS/OS version, but it never came beyond an alfa version.

METAL is a language (like C or Pascal) that you can use to build your
own BBS. The most common METAL BBS software is FutureVision (FV), which
is quite complete. Today it has usenet and email features, and of course
anything else (non-internet specific) you'd wish on a good BBS (exept
for QWK though...)
