As far as I know, the answer is yes to both questions.

In order to use a printer in a GS/OS program that uses the Print
Manager, you need to set up the DC Printer Control Panel to tell the
system what type of printer you wish to print the document with.  By
the way, this needs to be done _before_ you create the document as
your program, when it does a Page Setup, will get the resolution
information and paper sizes from the printer driver that you select in
the DC Printer Control Panel.

As to the setting in the Slots Control Panel, I'm pretty sure the
Print Manager doesn't care what the setting is and will print
correctly either way.  However, if you want to print from ProDOS 8
then this setting must be set correctly.  I think this probably came
out more confusing than I had intended but if anyone doesn't
understand, speak up and I'll try again.  :)
