Twilight 2.0 Beta...
Got a question for those of you who aren't arguing about off-topic
stuff! :) Ok, I've check out Nathan's Twilight II page and it says the
files will be available shortly (off his web page). I later checked his
main page and now it says because of people copying II software or
something, he's not going to make it available anymore.
So as I understand it, I have to pay $$$ for a Delphi account
(that I don't NEED) just to get it? I noticed I can get a copy from
Shareware Solutions II for $12. While I appreciate Joe's service and I
know there are people who need his service, I'm not paying to be a beta
tester (Microsoft anyone? ;) ). Besides, I'll probably be "final" in a
couple months anyway, and I'll ahve to pay another $12...for
something that says it's freeware. (If it was commercial, I would've
mailed the check months ago to the author, but since it's classified as
freeware, I would hope I could get it with as little hassle as possible).
Look, no matter what is done, there are always going to be SOME
people who are always going to copy software (whether they admit it or not
-- look at the PC market, god what a mess.). I really think Apple
II programmers shouldn't place restrictions on their software. There are
plenty of HONEST and HARD WORKING Apple II users who don't pirate and
still support II developers (and APPRECIATE their work. Punishing those
of us who are on the internet just because of grudges against a few people
isn't fair. Besides, what keeps the pirates off of Delphi? Magic?
You're just limiting the number of people who can use your software and
thus speeding up the time until you'll have to abandon the II market
totally.
OK, I've said my side of things. Now I have a request. Could
someone please mail me disk images of Twilight 2.0 Beta? Before you do,
please e-mail me to let me know (and I can give you an address that can
handle the size). If some nice Apple II hobbyist could help me out, I'd
appreciate it. I've bought most of the major Apple IIgs programs that've
come out in the last 6 years. I'm no pirate, but I have no intention of
spedning money on service I don't need (got a decent internet service via
my college and I pay ENOUGH for that...). So please, if anyone can help,
I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
