Undoubtable Futurevision running on Metal, both of which are
freeware and can be obtained through an FTP site (I don't recall
which, I downloaded it several years back. If the group is still
in existence, 'alt.bbs.metal' may provide better details). GBBS
running on ACOS is another option, although it is a commercial
package which you'll have to purchase. Before the Apple boards
in my calling area shut-down, most switched to Futurevision/Metal,
and I must admit, I preferred it over GBBS.

Other alternatives worth mentioning: AppleNET 2.0 that Derek
Fong released as freeware, and I think I may even have uploaded
it to one of the major FTP sites _years_ ago. Then there is also
Jim Ferr's shareware BBS package (the name has slipped my mind,
though that too is available through most FTP sites). The latter
two I thought I'd mention since Derek and Jim used to run BBSes
in my area (Eagle-Eye's Emporium and Apple TechLink) which were
my only link to the Apple II world before I discovered Fidonet
and finally the Internet. :-)
