On the Apple II FIDO echo, years and years ago, with Lorin Evans en the
other guy with almost an identical last name, this issue was also
discussed. Though MACOS might be better than ACOS (can't affirm that, I
was a METAL/FV sysop), there was an agreement that MACOS would be
dropped.
