Well, what have you expected? Guess why I have chosen this sad
nickname? Because I have already met so many people like Nathan.
I believe that he is not really evil, he is just so filled with
hate, fear and arrogance that he won't even see the hand which is
outstretched in friendship. I would like to be a friend to Nathan,
we have many things in common: we have the same age, we are both
programmers and we have both survived the college. But here the
similarities end...
While my own ego has been reduced to nil and void, Nathan still
wants to be the center of the Apple II universe, the king of a doomed
kingdom, a holy crusader against software piracy. I have had nice
chats with Joe Kohn, Ian Schmidt and many others who have had a
bad reputation in the past. But Nathan does never learn! Like an
ice block in the warm current of love, he stands there, thinking that
just because he represents a little bureaucratic power, he has the
right to divide the A2 community into two halves, to scare newbies
and to flame heretics.
Dr. Tom, are you really so naive to think that you can change such
a stubborn guy within one day? I have got my depressions because I
have already met too many of these guys. In the 'You are here' thread
I have posted my former experiences with the Apple II and the Vogons.
Who is interested in it, may read it. These guys are everywhere,
in politics, nature protection, gene technology, religion, education
and computer science. They follow the letter of the law, but not the
spirit and can destroy and pervert almost everything. Perhaps because
they represent the law? Perhaps because they fear the law? Perhaps both.
Nathan has already tried to denounce me as a pirate, but I have never
offered any commercial programs on my site. My greatest 'crime' was to
mention the Asimov site for backup purposes in csa2. Not enough
evidence for active piracy, isn't it? Stay serious.
Nathan has chosen to ignore my polite request for the Turkeyshoot
game simply because he has already marked me as a thief. I have
never pirated anything and I have never flamed Nathan personally
(apart from a few well-placed Douglas Adams quotes), but he has
already made his opinion about me. (I have sent him a copy of this
article via e-mail to make sure that he can't say he hasn't got it.)
His ridiculous policy of restricting distribution of Freeware to
certain persons won't prevent piracy of his software, it just shows
another time that his natural disposition is to control everything.
Nathan, for god's sake, stop the madness, PLEASE. The Apple II
community waits for a sign from you. It's time that you drop your
pants and expose your true self... NOW. Upload your programs without
any restrictions to the public ftp sites without any restrictions if
you really want to support the A2 community and perhaps the people
will BUY your next commercial program. Or continue the flames, rants
and accusations and destroy your reputation finally and forever!
Your friend M.

Ford laughed a nervous laugh. "Well I mean yes,"

The Vogon stood up.
"No, well you're completely wrong," he said,
