> Also, does the IIc support a date/time clock?
Yes, it does.... IF you have the right equipment. Although ProDOS comes
with built-in support for time and date stamping, the //c has no
standard facility for installing a clock card or an equivalent
time-keeping mechanism. However, I remember seeing magazine ads in the
eighties (ah, the golden age of the Apple II!) for an Applied
Engineering product for the //c. It was -- get this -- a combination
power supply and time/date-keeping device! I never actually tried it,
and don't ask me how the devil it would have worked (the picture of the
device showed no connections other than the AC cord and power output
cable), but it was the only hardware solution I've ever seen for giving
time-keeping capability to a //c. Perhaps someone else out there could
share more info with us on this thing?
Then again, if all you want is to have your ProDOS disk catalogs show
something other than <NO DATE> all the time, you can simply use a
program to manually set the date/time machine status bytes in the ProDOS
global pages. For example, the ProDOS User's Disk contains a utility for
doing this (however, I do not believe it ever shipped with the //c as
part of the included software). Again, I have the technical details on
hand (thanks to yet another reference manual) should you ever need them.
A final note: the word processor MouseWrite supposedly contains a
*software-implemented* clock and calendar! I don't know if it is still
available, but that program was offered by Roger Wagner Publishing, Inc.
Once more, we could use any help from other forum members out there to
shed further light on the subject.
I hope I was of some help to you and, whatever you decide to do, good
luck!
