AE High density drive

I have an Applied Engineering HD drive attached to my SuperDrive controller
(along with an Apple SuperDrive).  I seem to remember reading somewhere that
the AE drive could read and write Apple format 1.6 meg HD disks.

Is this correct?  And if so, how do I convince the drive to perform this
task?  If some special software is required, does anyone have it?
