I just want some ideas for this .... I been putting this idea off
for VERY long. I was really hesitant to put downloadable software from
my web-page, purely the reason was that I have limited Web-quota, and
incomplete software archive.
Just for now, there were a number of requests for them to be made
avaliable from Treasure Chest Project. My Webmaster made it clear to me
only those with redistribution permissions are allowed to be put on.
Since both ground.isca.uiowa.edu and apple2.caltech.edu would have
these already, I want to be able to distribute in a form that everyone
can open and use. Clearly, .DSK images used with PC-ZIPed will suit this
idea best.
Reasons are:
1) You can uncompress PC-ZIPed compression on PCs, StuffIt Expander
on Mac,
PMP-UnZip on the Apple IIGS, and Angel 0.81 for older Apple IIs
running
ProDOS 8.
2) You can convert .DSK images on an Apple II using DSK2FILE utility
back onto
normal floppies.
The above applies only to Apple IIs, not GS. I haven't thought about
the GS distribution format.
Contravening to what .DSK images are associated with piracy, I still
think that .DSK is probably the best idea.
Active discussions on this will be great. Any input will be
appreciated from you. I only want one copy of each software, i.e. ONE
format from Treasure Chest Project.
