With this program, you can do both. Read what it actually says:
Tnimage is a powerful and flexible scientific image analysis
program for Unix. It has been extensively used and tested by
molecular biologists, forensic pathologists, biochemists, physicists,
and others to obtain quantitative data from images. It is also
useful for general image acquisition, image viewing, conversion, and
editing. The program has an easy to use, menu-driven interface based
on Motif. Precompiled binaries are also available for several Unix
platforms and MS-DOS.
