It depends upon the DOS used for saving the games on diskette.
Usually, either DOS 3.3 or ProDOS will 'fit' home made games. You can
tell which one works by booting a DOS 3.3 or ProDOS utilities disk and
seeing if a CATALOG command lists the files on the game diskette.

In case you were wondering, not all DOS 3.3 and ProDOS diskettes
have a bootable DOS on the diskette. Some do and some do not. One way to
find out is to try booting the disk.

A good way is to boot a diskette with the desired DOS. If you want
to type in commands (like CATALOG or LOAD HOMEGAME or RUN HOMEGAME), you
will usually need to be at the standard Applesoft prompt. The standard
DOS 3.3 "System Master" disk loads DOS 3.3 and also allows loading
Integer BASIC. (Some very old games need to run under Int BASIC.)

Lots of times you can wait for whatever program to load when the
ProDOS disk is booted and, then, press Control-RESET to get to the
Applesoft prompt. Some bootable ProDOS disks have an "Exit", etc. choice
which will let you get to the prompt.

Yes. You can download lots of games from 'emulator' archive sites
like Asimov and Uni-kl.de . You can also download many games in
non-emulator format at sites like Ground and A2-Caltech. All of these
sites and more are listed in the FAQs.

Yes. For details, you can go to Ground and download or view Apple
II Csa2 FAQs at ...

ftp://ground.isca.uiowa.edu/2/apple2/Faqs .

Start with the Main Hall file (named F004A2MHall.txt). It lists many
Q&A's relating to DOS, ProDOS, and downloading/uploading. It also lists
several other Apple II sites you can check out for software and
information.

I'll go ahead and email the FAQs file dealing with DOS and ProDOS.
